- Ranch House Plan Started In California
One of the most popular homes in America today is the Ranch House Plan. This plan was developed and made popular by Cliff May. The first Ranch house built by May was in San Diego, California in 1932. Because of their birth place ranch style is also referred to as California Ranch.
The ranch style home takes its cues from Spanish Colonial, Prairie and Craftsman style. Cliff May liked the Frank Lloyd Wrights Prairie homes. With such strong influences taken from Mr. Wright’s designs you might call Mr. Wright the grandfather of the ranch home.
A ranch home incorporates sprawling rectangular, u-shape or L-shaped footprints. They are normally 1 story homes. The floor plan is probably open and informal. The homes lack ornate outer appearances. For the most part they have simple exteriors with possibly a few shutters. Natural materials are heavily used in these homes. Materials like oak floors and wood or brick exteriors are found in homes of this type.
Ranch homes became extraordinarily affordable for soldiers returning home from World War II. Mass production techniques led to ranch homes becoming ordinary and cheap for the average consumer. That does not mean however that all ranch homes are ordinary or cheap.
Ranch homes planned a large role in the creation of sub divisions. As automobiles more and more popular the need to live in the city became less necessary. Large sprawling sub divisions were created with these spread out 1 story homes.
Ranch style homes gave birth to a few other home plans. The split level home, and the raised ranch are the two most common. These homes now fill the market. That makes them affordable for a first time buyer. Retired home owners are also flocking to these home plans. Because of the 1 level living and wide open floor plans it makes these homes easy to move around and the best choice for handicap equipment such as walkers or wheelchairs.
If you are a first time buyer the ranch house may be at top of your list for availability and price. You can find these homes with simple cost effective features that make them easy to navigate and maintain.

- A Multitude Of House Plans To Choose From
Building a house doesn’t happen too many times in a lifetime. When this moment comes, we confront ourselves with many decisions such as choosing the most beautiful and convenient location for the house, figuring out how we want it to look and finding to someone who will design the home plans you are looking forward to. A house represents an important investment and the decisions we make should be made wisely.
Your house plans will be exactly as you imagined as long as you resort to a professional company with well trained employees who will pay attention to your indications. Now days, those of you who are looking for someone to design your home plans have a multitude of choices at your disposal. However, you need to know that besides the variety of companies that provide such plans, there are several types of house plans to choose from.
When developing home plans, you should also consider the climate zone where you wish to build the house. Your builder will tell you if any modifications are necessary taking into consideration the temperatures and the humidity in that area. Furthermore, you’ll need to establish from the very beginning whether you want a big or a small house. Most people prefer small house plans, because small houses are easier to maintain and they have a total floor area somewhere between 1,200 to 1,600 square feet. These small houses are nice and they are less expensive to build than larger houses.
Other popular home plans are beach plans; usually, these are both large and small scale plans and are frequently built with insulated concrete walls and pier foundations, particularly in hurricane-prone areas. Country style house plans first emerged in Britain and Ireland and they are usually spacious properties, having minimum 25 rooms and square footage of up to 8,000. These types of plans have front porches and they are often capped with a gabled roof.
If money isn’t a problem for you, than you can always opt for luxury home plans. Your building plan can be as luxurious as you want it to be as long as you have sufficient financial abilities. The most popular luxury plans are vacation luxury plans and custom luxury home plans. Still, don’t forget that you can always choose Victorian style house plans. These types of plans should include specific features of Victorian architectural styles and the most frequent ones are historic Victorian plans.
Unique plans are definetely unique but they can be the most expensive type of home plans. Some of the most appealing are unique cottage plans and two story plans. Ranch plans are seen quite frequently in the United States and most building plans utilize natural construction material without paying much attention to decorative details.
Log plans have a long history throughout America. Log plans usually have more than 2,000 square feet and they can include two or more baths, porches, many windows and whatever else you please. People who build log homes as a vacation destination often end up living in them. Last, but not least, let’s not forget about southern house plans which represent a combination country and historical elements.

- Small House Plans
Small house plans are small home plans or floor plans. Small house plans are popular but are not a style of home. Small house plans make sense for many people and families because they are more affordable. Small house plans can be anything from a cottage, ranch style or even cabin or almost any other style home. If you choose these types of plans, you will save money and cost of material. It is also less expensive to build a small house than a large home.
Some small homes have two floors and come with or without a basement. Some more common small homes have crawlspaces for extra storage. Traditionally they have a room off the kitchen which you can place a washer and dryer. These house are frequently Cottage or Bungalow style.
More about small house plans
Some other small house plans consist of homes that keep the kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms to the end of the house and the living room in its center. This gives more simplicity and also a sense of luxury to the house.
Small house plans are normally defined as houses with less than 1800 square feet, excluding a basement. These house are also space efficient and less expensive to build on a small plot of land.
Where to find small house plans
If you are interested in small house plans you should always look for the best deals on blueprints. Blueprints or plans are available from a variety of sources and at many different prices. Two of my favorites are coolhouseplans.com and dongardner.com. Plans from coolhouseplans have prices ranging from $585 for five sets of blueprints up to $1,175 for CAD files. If you are not familiar with CAD files, these are Computer Aided Drawing files, meaning that they provide all the information needed to build the house on CD-ROM and have blueprints that can be printed and as often as needed and in any quantity.
Materials for these homes are usually lower in cost since they don't require as much wood or brick. Someone interested in small house plans can also look for a designer who can make custom blueprints with all the specific features you want. These custom plans may cost less then complete house blueprints or they may cost more - depending on the designer or architect. You can also find kits that come with plans where the home can be built in a few weeks or months.
Can you build that dream house free?
I didn't think this was possible until I ran into this ebook titled "How to Build Your Free House."
The guy who wrote the book, E.S. McArthur, says he will guarantee you can own a brand new, high-quality, custom-built dream home in just a few months and that it could cost you nothing.
